Matthew 11: 28-29
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Psalm 46: 10
“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations.”
Good afternoon fellow companions along God’s pathway for us. Our scripture from yesterday was Psalm 46:1 and10 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” ” Be still, and know that I am God” We looked at how God has cleared all of our schedules now! Sheltered in our homes, we have the time to truly listen to what he has to say! Will we take the time?
Today, I have several questions for you. How can we become more Christ centered? How can we let our souls rest and renew themselves? How can we be like Psalm 46:10 says “Be still and know that I am God?” Another question some may be asking is “How do I become still before God? All good questions.
We have been so used to rushing around, filling our time with many different tasks, that it is difficult to be still before God? Our minds race with many thoughts. We need to focus for a minute on our priorities. We need to decided whether we want to be obedient to his Word in Psalm 46:10 or not. It is a choice we have to make, no one else can make this choice for us. Once we make the choice to be obedient to his Word then we need to look again to scripture for how to do this. Matthew 11: 28-19 , the story about Mary and Martha listening to Jesus, is the scripture that gives us all the answers.
First, we must come to him! We must decide to make a commitment to daily go to him for our answers. He is our salvation, our rock on which we firmly stand and our strength and comfort at all times. When we are weary and burdened, we go to him in prayer. He will give us the rest we need. Sometimes, we go to him quietly, saying nothing because he knows what we need. All we have to do is listen to his still, small voice inside us guiding us every minute of the day, if we allow it to. Again, we have to make this commitment to listen to him. He will not force us to come and listen!
Christ in this scripture tells us he is gentle and humble in heart. He wants only the best for us. He does not want to harm us or let anything come between us and him. It is in his presence that we will find rest for our souls. God is not over-demanding of us. All he wants is for us to love him enough to come into his presence each and every day to make our requests known to him and to loving listen to what he has for us to do. Then, as we obediently do what he asks us to do, he gives us the peace and rest that our souls need. Tomorrow, we will be looking at how we can do all this and quiet our minds so that we can hear him. This is becoming more Christ-centered in our lives.
Tonight, read the story about Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42. Answer these questions for yourself:
Who made the wisest choice, Mary or Martha? Why was her choice the best? What does this story tell you about the choices you have been making in your life? Have a great evening in the word. I will see you tomorrow with ideas on how to quiet your mind and hear from God.
